Fashion Biking

Spring is on its way for many of us--if not already here for those in the southern US latitudes. Improving weather always starts driving my commute away from the bus and onto my bike. In homage to Spring and Biking I bring you the latest trom Trendcentral.com:

Amsterdam - "Although biking has always been a popular means of transport in Amsterdam, it's now also a lifestyle statement, and so it has become a stylish affair. Cool bicycle baskets, such as designer Marie-Louise Gustafsson's Carrie basket, are becoming more common, as are vintage wicker models adorned with carefully arranged flowers. Artistically-inclined cyclists are painting their bikes, while the fashion crowd is buying up capes (now sold at American Apparel) to wear while riding." Read More.

Happy riding.

Seeing the iForest for the Trees

Found this one on a Trendcentral email from The Intelligence Group.

iPhorest Application

Nothing like jumping on the Green/Social Networking/iPhone App bandwagons simultaneously.

From the iPhorest.com website:

"Once you download the app, you can virtually grow your tree

  • You dig a hole by creating a digging motion until your seedling appears
  • Plant the seedling
  • Shake your phone to create a storm and when the sun comes your tree begins to grow
  • Repeating this will allow your tree to reach full growth
  • Share your tree growth at any stage with others by pressing the share button to email them a picture
  • Go up to Forest, where you can reset your growth.
  • Go up to see all of the other iPhorest users. Help green the Earth - the app places a dot where you first launch iPhorest.

Tree planting services are provided to iPhactory by The Conservation Fund. For each virtual tree planted, The Conservation Fund will plant a native tree in real life - starting with restoration of vulnerable wildlife habitats along the Gulf Coast in the United States. They will work with the nation's leading public natural resource agencies to ensure the long-term protection of each iPhorest." Learn more.

Have a happy spring weekend and Earth Hour this weekend ya'll.

$2.8 Billion Worth of Lazy

Alliancelogo  From the Environmental Leader Daily:

"Key findings of the 2009 PC Energy Report, commissioned by 1E and the Alliance to Save Energy, reveal that nearly half of U.S. employees who use a PC at work don’t shut down their computers at the end of the day, wasting $2.8 billion every year powering 108 million unused PCs.

By shutting down computers each night, for example, a company with 10,000 PCs can save more than $165,000 a year in energy costs, according to the study. In the U.S. this translates into more than $1.72 billion and nearly 15 million tons of CO2 emissions." Read more.

The New Shoppers Guide To Pesticides

09shoppersguide-purpleimage Want to know which fruits and vegetables are lowest in pesticides? What to pick when no organic option is available?

Check out the Environmental Working Group's Shoppers Guide to Pesticides. You can sign up for the foodnews letter and download it from www.foodnews.org.

From the Foodnews website:

"Get the guide so when you're shopping you'll know which produce to buy organic, and which conventionally-grown fruits and vegetables are okay if organic isn't available."

The site also offers their methodology for research and a "how to reduce exposure" to pesticides section.

Once you've downloaded the pdf, you can print it out and take it with you to the grocery store.
